I have a job!
I begin working on 29 December 2008 for a Travel Agency here in Vegas. All the prayers are finally answered. Thank you all.

December 17, 2008 History is made
What makes living in Las Vegas fun in the winter time? Usually it means you are going to have to wear a sweatshirt and your closed toe sandals. Well this year not so much we have had a wonderful snow storm yesterday that has caused quite a bit of disorder in the valley. The airport was shut down, school is closed today due to snow(not that it is almost all melted and the skys are bright blue right now) and we only have 12 snow plow trucks and 8 of them are up on Mt. Charleston. As I sat yesterday in my warm home all bundled up just watching the snow come down I could hardly wait for Rain to get home, dinner over so we could go for a walk in the snow.

Establishment of Thansgiving
Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful once again to Mom and the the wonderful meal cooked. My Father read the following out of the paper before we ate and prayed this Thanksgiving day. I hope you all can enjoy.

Lincoln establishes Thanksgiving
The human tradition of thanksgiving runs back to ancient times as a celebration of bountiful harvests and the need to be respectful to whatever gods or supernatural forces were thought to have made them possible. It is a tradition that took special root in a religious and fruitful America from the earliest days of European settlement. The establishment of Thanksgiving as a permanent national holiday, set for late November, is credited to President Abraham Lincoln. Then, as now, it was a time of war, with some people celebrating the safe return of loved ones and others suffering from separation or mourning permanent loss. Everyone from the president on down was in need of a reminder that there was still much in the world to be thankful for.
Note that, though he was then a wartime president, commander in chief of what was then the world’s largest army, Lincoln’s proclamation orders nothing. He invites. He recommends. His call upon the Almighty Hand was not to win the war, but to restore the nation to peace and harmony after human agencies has settled the dispute.
Lincoln’s unblinking honest did not allow him to forget the woes of the world, nor the continued needs and pains of those less fortunate. In that, as well as in his recognition of the many things we have to be grateful for, we should continue to emulate him.

Happy Thanksgiving to all....
Finally the holiday of to much Turkey is here. Rainier and I drove up from Vegas to Salt Lake yesterday in the rain and became happier in Nephi when the rain stopped. We are both really excited to spend the holiday with our family. We send you all a happy Turkey day!

Ahead of the time....
First I am the last person to rush a holiday, but I LOVE CHIRSTMAS time. I have always kept my self from any decorations being up or any music listened to until the day after Thanksgiving. But this year that has all gone out the window when I saw them today. So with out any further explination enjoy!
For Tara.....
Along time has passed for the blogging world in this household. You would think that I would be even more diligent since being home all the time. The truth is I have seen a very bitter part of my lift and really did not need to have that shared with the rest of the world. October 2, 2008 was a dark day in the Pioquinto house hold. I was laid off from a horrible job, that paid really well. This was not a shock rumors had gone around and around for a few months. But finally the rumors became fact and 20% of the employees found themselves without a job. Let's just say that I have submitted for 30 jobs, been to 2 job fairs, 1 temp agency and still looking for a job. I guess when 1/2 of the population here is out of work there is more competition than I like. When 7-11 turns you down because you can't speak to Habib it tends to make you feel bad. Good news I have another interview with the College of education in the Nursing Department tomorrow, everyone keep a prayer in your heart.
Being out of work has let Joe and I spend some time together that we did not have before. We were able to go up to Salt Lake for conference weekend, we helped Ben and McKenzie move. OK I watched and packed but we got to go up. We were able to take a quick trip to Phoenix and see a suns game, also to visit with my cousin Nate and his family. I have to say they have some beautiful daughters. We also visited the botanical gardens in Phoenix.
We have had Mom, Ben, and Mckenzie down to Vegas for a visit were we drank some of the most interesting coke products from around the world. Oh, and we also had the best Gelato ever at the Platzo, if you are in town it is expensive but worth every penny spent, I love the lime,pear, and spumoni the best.
We have had Joe's parents here this last weekend let me say I have a freezer full of lumpia...We will bring some up for Thanksgiving...
Some of the things I have done to fill my time is laundry, dusting, vacuuming, watering plants, kitchen floor cleaning, and of course the kamode room. Let me just say my perfect home would have tiny bathrooms and large living, bedrooms. I really dislike cleaning, but I hate a messy house worse. The old catch-22!

Kennedy
Last night as I was just cooking dinner and received the best phone call from Kennedy. I hear this sweet little voice on the phone saying "Hi, Kari" and my heart smiled. My little Kennedy just jabbered on and on to me. Jacob finally got the phone and said she just loves to talk to people on the phone. I told him this was the the light of my day, little did he know I was sinking and fast yesterday. After a few words to Jacob, Kennedy got back on the phone to say Bye and Peace Out!
God really does know when we just need the simplest gift of a phone call from a 18 month old to brighten our day.
So to all you out there in the words of Kennedy "Peace Out".

So what's been going on in your neck of the woods? Our home has seen a bunch of good times, bad times and many many changes. The month of September flew by with speed of superman. Honestly I don't quite know where the time went. Rain bought me an early anniversary gift and we went to see Enrique at Mandlay bay. Here are some pictures. I have to say I liked him better the first time, before he became so self centered and pop star, but I had a wonderful night with my husband.

So what do you do on a Friday night in Vegas?
Well, if you are Rainier you travel down to the Palms for the"Kiss" concert, where you get a wrist band to go down front to see Gene Simon's up close and personal. So close you can see the face make-up running down his face. You get buried in confetti and realize that you are just to old for that much Pyro. If you are Kari you send your husband to the concert with all the love in your heart, stay home and watch endless chick flicks while eating rice-crispy treats. And at the end of the night you realize that just love a good make you feel good movie. Everyone needs to see the Jane Austin Book Club. LOVE IT!!! I cried(surprise), laughed, got angry, and forgave.
Happy Labor day weekend to us, the weather was beautiful, and we (I) trimmed up the front bushes and trees in our yard. I then made Rainier take me to Star nursery to buy some more flowers for our front door and breakfast patio. As we were walking out there was a flat of grass just sitting there and I wanted to cry, I gently gave it a love pat and said one day you and me. I want to get our back yard done so we have an area of green all to our self's. Ok, so it will be a few years but I still just love the smell of grass. I think I just might be better if it is your own. I mentioned to Rainier that once we get the yard done I want a lawn mower to keep it cut, and that I will do it. Wait, stop what is happening to me? It seems that the older I get the more I want to plant things in dirt to make a piece of beauty here on earth. My Mom and Dad would be so proud. Well just to say the flowers look beautiful, and the dirt pile in our back yard holds much promise.

Look what the sun can do in Vegas
Ok, so I was trying to get some sunshine to my plant. I put it out on our patio for the day and this is what happened. I am very bad plant owner. Yes one day in the Las Vegas sun will burn your beatiful plants to a crisp. It kind of looks like age spots. Not funny....(inside my head there is a bit of a chuckle) Wednesday is full of drama drama drama. But now I am going to go and read a bit of this Vampire book. I am 1/2 done and honestly I hope it gets better.

I often sit in church on Sunday morning and as the Relief Society asks is there any good new minutes you would like to share, I rack my brain to see if there is some small thing that happened out of the ordinary, other than my husband managed to put his dirty clothes in the hamper and not on the floor. But then as we were eating dinner tonight I said to Rain, it just makes me smile. Yes my good news is the shelf's are up in my kitchen and all my turtles have one place to call home. I have seen this picture in my head since we started cleaning and painting and now it is done. Yippie, hooray, cheer, shout and me dancing all about. It takes a tag from my sister for a post. I really have tryed to think of something fun and new going on in Vegas here, but really we go to work come home watch a bit of TV then head to bed. We are boring, I think we are ready for the end of summer and cooler weather, but not ready for the long dark nights with the time change comming up. Here are my answers to Beth's tag.

8.8.08 otherwise know as the CAMPOUT!
The time has come and gone to fast. This past weekend up in the Spruces with my Nelson family. All the aunts and uncles their kids and their kids. I think the kids kids out number the adults now. It was so good to see everyone, and to be in the mountains with you all. I have a very wonderful family and for that I am grateful. I loved the wonderful meals, time spent playing games, and of course the roasting of marshmellows and starbursts thank you all!
This year Benjamin, McKenzie, Rainier, and I took our walk around silver lake to enjoy the beauty and I have to report Ben did not drop the camera in the Lake, that might be because MeKenzie would not let him touch the camera. Saved them some money this year.
What would a campout be with out Moose? How lucky we were to see these amazing animals up close and personal. Grandpa Nelson would have loved it, watching all his little mooses watching a Moose or two.

Good Bye....
Carrie moved home. My best girlfriend moved home;( I am sad for me but very excited for her and this new chapter of her life starting. We spent the last two days trying to do everything we could. Lunch out at Margarita Ville, seeing Mama Mia(the movie), dinner at Jerry's Nugget, and watching two water shows at the Bellagio. I am glad she never tires of seeing the show.
I will miss her fiercely. You see we moved down to Las Vegas in 2004 to start a new adventure, worked at the same company/same department, shared an apartment in the hood.
So here I am with anther new chapter in my book. Who am I going to talk to at work when everyone else is driving me crazy, she just better be caring her phone with text all the time.
You know it is hard to have your best girlfriend move away, but as she know when we are 82 years old and if still mobile we are hitting the town decked out in our finest.
I guess today I am Very grateful for a Best Girlfriend in Carrie. Love and miss her already an its only 3pm. I know she will read this soon so I just have to say "I love you more than my luggage"

Time is marching on
Where has the last month gone? So many changes both physical and mental as well as our zip code. We have moved into our home, painted and hung some pictures. Rainier and I were all set with movers and the big date, then we get a call from my brothers saying they want to come down to Vegas and help us move. REALLY!!!!! I just wanted to have them here, I love it when family visits. Well I told them they don't have to do this I understand the cost of gas is obscene and all but they came and here is my bragging time. I have two of the most BUFF brothers on the face of the earth. I was grunting and complaining just packing and pushing the boxes on the floor one and a time and here they are lifting two or three at a time. You Go Bro!!! They really will never know how wonderful it was to have them here and to be packed and unpacked in under 4 hours. The Japanese would call them" Gokarasama"= tough guy!
Another wonderful thing was Ira was here on work, so on Friday night I got to go to dinner with Dad, Jacob, Benjamin, Ira, Rainier and me! Yup me and the men, I felt so out numbered but so safe at the same time. We went to Red Rock and saw the amazing room Ira had for work, two words "Free Mini-Bar" all the water, soda and chocolate they wanted. Thank you for sharing Ira. I really wanted to jump on his bed, but I did not I had self control, but I did smash my face against the floor to ceiling window to look at the pools. Now I know how the other half lives.
My Dad was her for 2 weeks helping get our home painted. I can no longer stand the dull mushroom brown all over the place. I now have a bright Lemon Yellow Kitchen, A fig green living room and hall ways, with a dark plum accent wall. He also painted all the trim, and door a really high gloss white, it all really looks wonderful. Huge thanks to Dad for all his work. Now we just need to decide on the bedroom colors and get those going. I am trying to talk Rainier into an Aloe Green for our bathroom, but as of yet no such luck.
I have a few pictures of the progress, I did have some of my movers crashed out, but they are gone from my camera darn......
Here is my Yellow Kitchen. Growing up we always had yellow it was my Mom's favorite color, little did I know that my kitchen would be yellow, but no other color worked in my mind. So I was wandering the isles of Walmart last night, getting any and all types of cleaning supplies for our new home. Bleach, Comet, rubber gloves (of course) oven spray, shower spray, grease spray, wood cleaner, tile cleaner and the litter machine to make the job easier, 7 drop cloths and 3 more rolls of packing tape, two over the toilets shelf things, and season 2 and 3 of Will & Grace. I head over to the food section looking for a package of chocolate chip cookies and I notice that "Mott's" has a new apple sauce with Pomegranate added. My mind reels round and round is the Pomegranate the new Cranberry? What more can you now add Pomegranate to. So here I go up and down each isle. You have sorbet, apple sauce, juice, jello, soda, yogurt, and yes gum. World give me a break what is wrong with eating the fruit, do you call it a fruit? in the natural form...;( I just wish I had the idea to make millions by telling the world hey Pomegranate's are good for you so we are going to put it in a bunch of stuff and you will buy it. Any how after 1 hour and $188 dollars later I left Walmart. Now I have to finish packing, I have put it off all night. Thank you Beth for keeping me company.
This week I am very grateful for the health of my body. I have two hands that work, to feet to take me where I need to go, eyes that see, ears that work. I have abuse my body lately by not getting enough sleep, lifting packed boxes and moving furniture. Yes, I feel the aches and pains but they are my aches and pains. I am very grateful for a rather healthy body.

Yesterday, both Rainier and I played hookie from work we had that 24 hour flu. You ask why? Well we signed the closing papers on our home. The keys will be in our hands Friday. YIPPEE HURRAY!!!!!!
Rainier and I signed papers, went to lunch of course at Cafe Rio to celebrate. We got done around 1pm and wondered what to do in the middle of the day on a work day. Well we went to a movie. Saw "Don't mess with the Zohan". I don't ever have to see it again, but it was a good movie just to be entertained. We had a wonderful day off and really enjoyed the time we spent together. I am very grateful for my husband.

What is the old saying... times fly's when you are having fun.
Well the past days at work have charged my mental ability to the limit. You know the days when you get home you have no more to give and no matter what is happening you can not take any more in. So this week I spent time after work packing up the two bedroom apartment in which we live getting ready to move to our home. I have two piles pack and give away. Really how can two people gather so much stuff, and yes that is exactly what it is stuff. For the past while I have been listening to the Work and the Glory on Tape/CD. I thing of the Pioneers often and wonder if I had to up and leave my home with only those things I could carry what would I leave behind and what would I take with me.
I look at all the nic-nacks around our apartment from all the travel I have done. I can picture the stores, street vendors or cruise ships where they were purchased and have a hard time imaging them gone from my vision. As I have thought what would I take I walk from room to room and say I just can not live with out that, but this week has I have wrapped up the memories to move and taken the pictures off the walls there remains two pictures hanging on my wall. One my cousin Kim did for me of two little girls bobbing for apples in Halloween costumes, the other is one my Grandpa started but was called home before he could finish. These two pictures have deep meaning to me above and beyond anything else in my home. The love of a family member is wonderful and I count my self very lucky to have grown up in such a family.

Is it summer yet Mom......
Growing up in Salt Lake at this time of year always brought the question Mom I take off my undershirt and wear shorts, my mom would promptly tell me to look at the East Mountains and see if all the snow was gone and if so then yes the undershirt could come off and the summer of shorts began. I was driving home the other night and looked to the mountains to see if the snow was gone, so I could justify the usage of AC in my car. I was so very excited for once to only see brown on our mountains, so I promptly pushed that magical button and felt the cool air coming through the vents. The windows went up and the drive home was so wonderful.
I have stated before but I will do so again, I love a night out with the girls, this time we met at Bucca de Beppo for some Italian food. After 3 hours of talking and laughter we paid the billed and went our separate ways home only to know that in another 4 weeks we again gather to catch up on each others lives and bond some more. I forgot my camera or there would be a wonderful picture of us there.
We had a wonderful treat this weekend. Nate and Jen came through Vegas on their way home. We went to Jerry's Nugget for some prime rib dinner, it is the best in town. I always order the English cut and have 1/2 to take home. Well my shouts go out to Jen who ordered the double thick cut and at the whole thing! Jen you are my prime rib eating hero! We had a wonderful visit with you both, thank you for calling.
Our home buying took another step for the better on Saturday, we had the inspection, the only thing wrong in the whole house is one burner is filthy dirty and would not light on it's own, the inspectors said clean it up and it will work just fine. As the inspection came to an end the inspector kept saying there has got to be something wrong, but nope we have the best insulation you can get for Vegas, to help keep the house cool, good foundation, good structure, good water system, good electrical wiring. Another step crossed off, I never thought we would get to this point. I guess after all this is done, I am to learn patience.

WE HAVE A HOUSE!!!!!!!!
Finally, after many may frustrating weeks, we found someone who wanted our money.
Here is a great view of the front of the house. As you can see all that is in front is garage. If you walk to the right of the garage and around you will get to our front door. I want to change the color to something other than drab green.
We are purchasing a one-story home in Silverstone Ranch. This community is about 6 miles east of where we live now, so we are still in the Northwest part of Las Vegas. We are going to sign some papers on Wednesday an hopefully at that time we will know when closing will be. then the decorating begins. I REALLY want to tear out the carpet in the living room and put down flooring, it is just so much easier to clean and keep clean here in the desert. So we will see what happens. We are trying to decide on paint as well, the whole house is this dark oatmeal color. It needs a good wash and might be ok, but I have just got to get some color to help make it our home.

We will need to buy a fridge and washer& dryer, good thing Lowes is having a wonderful sale. The Kitchen and Living room are all in one big area so good room for a party or a family visit(hint, hint). All the blinds are included, so this will save a bunch of pennies in our pockets, we will use those for ceiling fans for each room, amazing what a simple invention can do to move the air around here in the hot weather.
I am getting excited to make this house our home, some place where I can put a nail in the wall and be ok with it. The best part of all is the money we are paying each month is going towards our home and not some company.
So the thing I am grateful for this week is finally being able to say we have a home!!!!!

I am so thankful for bright red toenail polish. Now some of you may laugh and others wonder exactly what goes on in my mind, but I love bright red toenail polish. It signifies summer and sandals. No more socks, no more crowded toes in shoes. I look down at my toes and just smile!
I would take a picture but that is just gross. Anyone who knows me knows I really hate feet.
So we went to look at 3 more homes. Yes, 3 more ugly, smoker filled, dirt induced home. I wonder how these people stood to live in such filth andy why do they have to destroy the homes when they left. Well keep your fingers crossed that we just get an answer. I guess if we don't get the home we are going on vacation, before we go insane.

Why I spend 12 hours in a car......
Really who would not drive all that distace for Mom an Dad!

So it's Wednesday, and today I am very grateful for clean ironed clothing. I know you all are saying what, how lame, and get real. But you have to know I am really good at washing and drying and then stacking my clothing on the spare bed until there is nothing left to wear then having to spend umpteen hours ironing to get it all back. I know I know that if I would just take the time right then once the clothing is washed to fold and iron it would be done. But I laugh at this statement right in the face. You see my wash is often done one load at a time. You know throw a load in before work maybe two if you get up early enough, and then do a load after work and really who wants to do anything after a day at work? So the pile begins. Well we are almost to the point of me spending yet another fun filled Saturday ironing and putting all the clothing away. My point is coming. You see I was dreading getting up this morning, this is a daily feeling for me but much more intense knowing I have no clean ironed clothing in my closet. Well I stumbled out of bed and to the closet just to see if by some miracle there was just one thing left that matched to some degree.. And what to my wondering eyes should appear but a skirt and shirt just waiting to greet me at the start of the day. I am so thankful that this was already done, that I actually had a smile on my face this morning. Now tonight I am chained to the ironing board trying to get at least one outfit done for tomorrow. I am so grateful for crisp ironed good smelling clothing.

My mind letting it all out...
We had a bunch of visitors this month, and so happy them came to spend a bit of time with us. We went to Death Valley (I took rock out of the park)...... I played at the park with my niece and gave my mother in law instructions to collect all the information she could about my husbands side of the family.
I need family history and I need it now. Who would have ever thought I would marry into a Phillipeno Family.

So we are in the process STILL of buying a home. The last two bids went up 7 days ago that means we only have 8 more before we should know if the banks accept our offers. I really really want to call up the banks and say in a rather loud voice " I HAVE THE MONEY DO YOU WANT IT OR NOT, TELL ME NOW NOW NOW", but being the adult that I am I did not.

I was driving to work on Tuesday in our new car, I had Rainier take my car in for an oil change, I was flipping through his music selection, who really has Van Haen to Al Hurricanes greatest hits(Spanish music) only Rainier. I finally selected a Van Halen song to sing along with and pump of the volume to get me to work. I was singing like no body's business and a very nice gentleman pulled up next to me at the red light waving frantically at me, I rolled down the window turned down the volume and asked what was wrong. He politely told me I looked ridiculous and thought I should know. Now the instant thought in my head was what can I do to his car to make his life inconvenienced, instead I peeled out (our Nissan Maxima you can do this really cool) of the light (when it turned green) and adjusted the volume and began again. What did I really care what he thought.

Why do boy's insits on wearing their pants down below their bum. I was waiting the other day at a light, I do this a lot in my commute. And here is a boy who has orange underwear, red sweats and tan pants on, the tank pants were down under his bum. I just have to say truly this can not be comfortable, and for crying out loud it is 90 degrees here, why are you wearing sweatpants and long pants at the same time. To all the boys out there really the pants down around the bum is not cute, pull them up.

Why does the hours of 8-5 drag like no other while at work during the week, but on Saturday it is gone before you know it was there. My conclusion is I am much happier on Saturday's than Monday - Friday. I am trying to change this to be happier Monday-Friday so I get to listen to books on tape while working, you know it works. I am on volume 3 of The Work and the Glory.
They are just moving to Hauns Mill, and I know what is coming it brings tears to my eyes.

Did you know if you clean your face with Hydrogen Peroxide to get it to dry up and happen to wipe it on your outer end eyebrows pretty soon you will have a different color on the ends than those by your nose. Yes, personal experience here. I was all upset as to why the ends of my eyebrows were turning red-orange. while those near my nose stayed the same color. I really thought some thing really serious was happening to me. So if you use Hydrogen Peroxide to dry up your skin keep it away from your eyebrows. On the other hand if you happen to grow a mustache on you upper lip if you use the Hydrogen Peroxide will bleach it out. Making those painful trips to get it waxed further between.

Monday Monday
So I had to speak in church yesterday about following the words of the Prophet. My Bishop finally nabbed me in the hall 3 weeks ago. Luckily for me General Conference was just right around the corner. Score for me. I was the first speaker and the third speaker leaned over to me and asked me to take all the time I wanted, he only had a testimony to bear. I think this was one of the most prepared talks I have ever had. I practiced and practiced told my self no tears and not to talk fast. What do I do tear up at a part and have to slow down. I hope someone in the congregation got something out of my talk. I guess for being in the ward 18 months now it is about my turn. I am just glad it is over and done.
I have to shout out to Ireland happy 3rd Birthday this last weekend love you much watch for a package in the mail.

Wahoo...............
I had the best Friday on record. I awoke feeling the cold but had gotten a good nights sleep. I hit EVERY light green on the way to work, there are 14 of them. I was able to turn on my computer and have it work the first time. I had a bit of work to do today and that made the time fly. Our departments was missing both bosses today, so there was a bit of a more relaxed feeling in our area. Yes, we were a bit more chatty, I say a bit because we are not allowed to speak to each other unless it is about work. The only saying when the cat is away the mice shall play. Well we really did not play, because we were so busy but it was just nice to have a few minutes here and there to speak and laugh a bit with each other. You know enjoy each others company.
Tonight I met up with some ladies from the old travel department. I convinced them to try Cafe Rio one of my favorite places. We sat outside and enjoyed our salads, pasta dishes, and enchiladas while comparing notes on our lives. I have to admit when you get us together there is a bunch of laughter. We really had a good group of women and we truly care about each other. The time always goes quickly when you are having fun, and as we looked down it was 8pm time to get home to our respective others.
I got home to a one-less toothed husband. Yes he had a tooth pulled today. About 2 months ago he cracked it apart eating dinner, so now I have a toothless husband, it is in the back where you will never see, but now you all know much to his chagrin.

Thursday!!!!!
Do you ever feel that Thursday gets ripped off. Sometimes I feel like this day of the week gets unnoticed. So big shout out to Thursday, I love you Thursday, now bring me back my Grey's Anatomy and I will be so Happy!
What a week for work. I went to work on Monday sad knowing that my Brother and his family were headed home. We had a fun weekend full of golf, shark reef and parks, and the hospital. Hospital you say, yes my little niece just could not keep her tummy still and became really dehydrated. I felt so bad for the little kid. But I had a wonderful time visiting and just having them in my home. I love family to visit!!!!! Work kept me so busy learning new insight to my job, finally more work to keep me occupied. This new job has not been easy, but finally I am beginning to understand and appreciated my job. Tuesday I spent the day a bit hostile knowing I had to mail my taxes and that included giving more money. I have issues with having pay when I set up my deductions in the beginning as to what the government says I have to pay more and I will be darned if I am going to pay any sooner than the 15 of April. So I left work early to get over to the post office. As I walked up to the door those Postal People locked the door. AUGH....................... This means I have to drive clear across the city to the main post office, I would rather eat lint!!!! After I calmed down, I heard that just 1 mile away a Postal Location is open until 7pm. HOORAY!!!!!! I have never never seen a parking lot empty so quickly. End of the story our taxes are in and I am still bitter.

Short sweet and to the point. I would tell you more but I just started the book. I really like Rachel Ann Nunes she is an LDS author and I always get an emotional journey from her books.
It is not unexpected to find me with tissues while reading, I am a sucker for a good romance with bunch of dram built in.

Sunday and What A Day!
We ate the Fish! For those of you who read Saturday's post, my decision was Fish, save the money and just eat in. It would be so easy to not grocery shop and just eat out every night. But in all truth I would rather cook dinner. I am getting pickier and picker of where we eat out and my taste is not the fast food cheap menu.
This morning I woke at 6am to get the day started, this is not normal for me at all. But I had a few things I wanted to get done before I went to Church and I did not want to be running out the door for Church. Today was a rather heavy day at our meetings. Being the 5th Sunday we had a combined Relief Society and Priesthood where the old Steak President spoke on Self Reliance. Now when he announced this my mind immediately went to not again. But here is where the spirit enters and make you listen and learn. He spoke with the kindness and peacefulness of our Heavenly Father. He gave us 7 things to help us as families to become those Saints that are happy and in the living of our means to be humble and see all the blessings that can and will be poured out from heaven.
He proposed 7 areas to help us with our Self Reliance
1. Prioritize: D&C 11:7
"Seek not for riches but for wisdom; and, behold the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto you, and then shall you be made rich. Behold, he that hath eternal life is rich."
What is important?
2. Needs vs. Wants
The age old battle of Wants Wants Wants.
I find my self in this battle daily. I have challenged my self with putting the wants into a jar and in 6 months if it is still a wants I reevaluate and either put it back in for 6 months or throw it away. I can say that right now my jar is only 4 items. Guilt plays a huge part in this, because I see the needs for our home and put that first.
3. Work from a budget: I have not always followed a budget, nor thought of one. I like money and I like to spend money. When it was just me I did not care about having to give to a relationship. Now I am happy to say Rainier and I have a budget, weather he knows it or not I do follow it and I am happy to say we saved over $200 in grocery and gas this past month.
4. Avoid DEBT: This ugly 4-letter word. Now we all know there is necessary Debt our homes and cars being the two most obvious. We were counseled that do we really need the $400,000 home do we need the newest car on the lot, or will the $200,000 dollar home be enough for our family and will that 2 yr old car work. Credit cards, now I have mixed emotions on this. Having a background in Travel I know you need this item now days, so one is just fine and I know that I can pay ahead on it for travel, but I do not need it for a trip to the mall. This goes back to the needs vs wants. I have found that I really like money in our savings account and really do not like paying on our visa.
5. Join the 10/10/80 Club, never hear of this before. You give 10% to Lord, 10% to you and you live on 80% or less. This makes total sense to me. He did clarify that the 10% to you is for you savings and retirement not for free spending.
6. Self Discipline: We are adults, yes we are adults be adults.
7. Be generous with your time, talents: The Lord has told us to be generous and to use those talents we have and more will we added upon or he will take them away should you not use it.
Now this was not enough for one day our Sunday School was heavy and quite an education for me.
Sunday School: Fathers do you know how important you are in your family and to your children.
We have a teacher who is a therapist for children, and this lesson really could not have be taught by anyone else in our ward. There was much discussed with all the levels of abuse caused in families from physical, emotional, and verbal. After a whole lesson the last thing we discussed was the lack of Fathers taking a positive roll in their family and more important their children's lives. She stated that those children she works with that have had no fathers or fathers who have had unrighteous Dominion in the home do not want to pray to a Heavenly Father for help, why when all they know is this earthly father and all the horrid they have done why would this child want to pray to a Heavenly Father. Fathers please realize how important you are in your child's lives. I am grateful to have a father who was and is good a father who I have a good relationship with who I can turn to and talk to.
Heavy day at Church and many things way on my mind, I know my prayers tonight will be lengthy so I had better get going.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly....
Finally we are out and looking at the inside of homes. Little did I know what my Saturday afternoon would bring to my eyes. House number one we went into I really like, there are hardwood floors throughout the bottom floor and this dark burgundy throughout the upstairs. I LOVE the kitchen!!!!! There are three bedrooms and and a loft upstairs, family and formal rooms downstairs. There are 2 1/2 bathrooms and a laundry room. One of the best features of the house is there is no one behind us. Our backyard opens up to a small park. House number 2, the people took the toilets and broke the handles off of the sliding glass door. But is has 2 bedrooms, den, family room and kitchen. I was not so impressed with the layout but it could work. House number 3, let me just say dogs and I don't think they ever cleaned at all, to much work required so it is off the list. House hunting is equal to buying a car, it just takes 10x longer and a bit more frustrating. Rainier and I are home and our feet up and a bit frustrated, but not beat down yet.
The best news of the week is Jacob, Katie, and Kennedy are coming down the second weekend in April. Both Rainier and I are so excited to have visitors. The boys will go golfing and Katie, Kennedy and I can go over to the park. I am marking bit X's on my calendar until they all get here.
Well is Saturday night at 6pm better talk Rainier into taking me to dinner, or fix the fish in the fridge. I vote out to dinner, but my common sense will go and cook the fish.

Come on already....
You all know the book Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day. Well I had the Kari Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Morning. For those who know me, know that mooring's and I have a very difficult relationship. Mornings love me, I do not love mornings. I have attempted to get a better relationship with mooring's in my life but it always comes back to my great dislike for them. Well this morning my alarm went off and I smashed the snooze button with one fell swoop of my finger. I lay in bed just getting ready to enjoy the next 7 minutes of wake up time before the radio tells me once again get out of bed and get going. Well today my next 7 minutes foretold my morning. I had some wonderful apartment dweller decide to play with the alarm on his car, then start the car and the walls shook to the "boom, boom of the music" not only the walls but my friendly cricket that lives with us fell from the window ledge down to my bed. Ok, I am up and out of bed. Our cricket, well he met his maker. I don't believe in trapping and letting go of bugs, they are only going to get back in. I figure you intrude in my space, you meet your fate. Well I'm up and not happy about it, muttering all the way to the bathroom of missing my 7 minutes of time to just wake up and get read to start the day. On my way to shower I am muttering under my breath all the evil things I could do to this apartment dwellers car. In my muttering I stub my toe on Rainier's dresser, oh this only brings on more muttering and it is getting louder. In the shower I get soap in my eye, pump the conditioner first. Have you ever tried to wash your hair with conditioner wondering why there is no lather. As I get ready I realize I have nothing ironed to wear to work and I refuse to wear wrinkly clothing. So I set up the ironing board and think I turn on the iron. I fed Chuck the fish and told him all about my terrible horrible no good very bad morning. I started breakfast and making lunch for my self, and set the crock pot with dinner. I went back to iron my clothing Yeah, it works much better if you turn it on. So on the iron goes and I head to dry my hair. Well all in all I finished my hair, ironed my clothing and finished cooking got out the door and off to work. As I am driving down Grand Canyon I think I am going to make it, things are not that bad. Well I get with-in 1 mile to work and there is a wreck, so I am 10 minutes late. Ugh.......

Sending out a late happy Easter greeting to all abound. Rainier and I spent a very relaxing day at home a very welcome day. I did end up making lamb chops, green beans and rolls for dinner, that was the work of the day. I think I am a bit rebellious of having Easter so early in the year. I am siding with April who is now jipped of having a holiday. But not much I can do about that.
I looked out my living room window this morning and exclaimed to Chuck(our fish) there is pink popcorn popping on the tree. I sang the old primary song all the way to work, it is going to be a good Monday. Spring is here and I am going to enjoy it for the few weeks we have in Vegas. I am looking forward the the warmer days filled with bright blue sky's.
Yesterday, our ward had a unique Sacrament Meeting. Our Bishop challenged all to read the Ensign for March 2008 and then bear Testimony. We had a wonderful Sacrament Meeting.
I did not finish the whole Issue, my failure or maybe my blessing. However one thing did stand out to me.
" The Focus of Our Faith
We know not all that lies ahead of us. We live in a world of uncertainty. For some, there will be great accomplishment. For others, disappointment. For some, much of rejoicing and gladness, good health, and gracious living. For others, perhaps sickness and a measure of sorrow. We do not know. But one thing we do know. Like the Polar Star in the heavens, regardless of what the future holds, there stands the Redeemer of the world, the Son of God, certain and sure as the anchor of our immortal lives. He is the rock of our salvation, our strength, our comfort, the very focus of our faith.
In sunshine and in shadow we look to Him, and He is there to assure and smile upon us."
I did weep a bit at this part. How true this statement is, that no matter what the Redeemer of the world, the Son of God is there to strengthen and comfort us. To give us the courage to take that next step and become closer to the day of our salvation.
If you have not read the entire Ensign I do challenge you and your family to do so. The comfort and peace within those pages keep me going one more day to do better and strive to be more or what my Father in Heaven wants of me.

Ok, now for those of you who know my Husband, you know he has about 20 different names.
His family calls him Randy, I call him Rain, work calls him Rainier, weserve friends call him Joe, one friends calls him Joey, one fried calls him JR and my father calls him Joseph...Ugh I say.. one person one name, that is the way it should be. Well to let you all know he would like to be called Rainier. How am I going to explain this to his mother???? Oh, well I told him this was fine but I was still going to call him Rain.
I spent the whole work week just waiting for the weekend. We have had some beautiful weather and I just wanted to be out in the sunshine for a day or so. We went house hunting on Saturday in the wind and cooler sky's. To let you all know there was nothing that said move here,live here.
Rainier said no wow factor that he wants me to walk into the house and go wow we have to live here. Little does he know no home here in Vegas will truly do that, only a home in Salt Lake will make me go WOW!!!!! Let's see how long it takes him to read this and tell me again the reasons we can't move to Salt Lake. I keep telling him there is plenty to do in Salt Lake, we just have to find a job for each of us. So if you know any place that needs an accountant let me know.
Oh, I just finished the book "The girl with the Pearl Earring", it was a quick read, good but not great.

OK, so this week I have had the giggle bone. Have you every had that. The bone that comes to life and makes you giggle at almost everything that is not expected. For some reason, I am finding even the not so funny, FUNNY. I don't know what is going on. Crow, does it taste that bad...
Ok, so Joe and I went to the dedication of "Dusty Dickens Elementary School" last night.
Now as I have stated I have to giggle each time I say "Dusty Dickens" .
I have wondered and wondered why would they name a school "Dusty Dickens" now come on really who wants to say I went to "Dusty Dickens". Well let me tell you what I learned about this woman last night.
Dusty Dickens has worked for the Clark County School District (CCSD) for the past 30 years in the land and zoning department of the school. Now, I was not sure what all this entailed, but I learned. She sat on the board in city council meeting fighting for land to build our schools, and pulled and pushed hard for the Northwest and Northeast part of the Valley when everyone told her to back down she fought harder. She has sat in the meeting on zoning and fought for the rights of the children to go to school in their own neighborhoods and not have to be bussed further away. She has first hand experience in the design and layout of the schools. The design firms could not say enough of the good vision this woman possesses. Last but not least Dust has been in the schools each week reading to the children.
I have to give my hat off to this woman who cares about the future of the children of Nevada.

What am I thankful for.........
You would think with all that I have in my life I could find something that I am truly thankful for this week. I feel awful that one thing does not pop out and shout in front of me "you are thankful for me". There is a list a mile (so I like to think) long that goes around and around in my head. Sunday I was really grateful for the fun weekend in San Diego and excited to hunker down and get ready for Brothers and Sisters, and what to my wondering eyes should appear on the Guide. NO Brothers and sisters. So not so grateful for Sunday at 10:00 pm.
Monday morning I was so thankful for my Fanta Grape lip gloss. I could never wear at home because my mom can not stand the scent of artificial grape smell. Then I got to wishing I could give my mom a hug and tears no not just one or two but the water works went down my face AT WORK, explain that to a coworker. People just don't understand how much a girl can lover her grape lip gloss and yet would give it up to give her mom a hug. Not so grateful for the lip gloss. Tuesday I was really grateful for the chance to go to the UNLV vs. New Mexico girls basket ball game. Not really for the game, but more for the Popcorn, licorice, and the nachos with the truly most wonderful fake melted cheese and jalapenos that burn so well. Then as we were leaving not so grateful for the Popcorn, licorice and nachos rumbling around in my tummie. Now we are at today Wednesday, so far I like Wednesday middle of the week. Wednesdays let me know I have accomplished 1/2 of my work week and gives me the goal of only two more days until my Saturday. And this Wednesday is extra special I get to go with Joe to an elementary school dedication. Now you have to say the name of the school with a southern drawl and it makes the name even more fun. We are going to the "Dusty Dickens" dedication. Yep, I am grateful for this school name each time I say it I have to giggle. It is impossible for me not to use my drawl. Ya'll know what I mean.
Well after all that I am thankful for Wednesdays.

70'S amd Loving It
Oh, how I love the sunshine and the ability to walk outside in sandals and no jacket.This week the weather has taken a turn for the good. We are in the low 70's and I am so very happpy. I love to walk outside and just feel comfortable not to cold and not to hot. Also the darn wind has stopped, cheer clap clap stomp your feet in joy. I really did not know how much wind and I are not friends. I am wishing with all I have that this beatiful weather stays for a while. As much as I like the warmth, I really don't want the 120's yet. I am so grateful
this time of year when my toes are happy out of socks!
Joe and I are very excited to have his family come they will be here today, I have cleaned up all our living day to day mess, made the extra bed, put out the clean towels. Now all I have to do is pray they have a safe drive and get her with egg rolls. Joe's mother makes the best egg rolls in the WORLD. You know the kind that make your mouth water just thinking about them. We are all going to head to San Diego on Friday for a family wedding. I am so excited a quick road-trip. We have our Nissan back from the shop, yes we have had the first trip to the fix-it-shop. But luckily we were covered and the car is all better now. I just have to remember even though the car is fast, we need to keep in in the speed limit. I have no doubts it will go very well at 80 or 85 miles an hour. I feel the need the need for speed when I drive it. heheheh!!!!

T.V. and POPCORN
I stand alone in my living room confessing I love "ANTM", for those who have no idea what I am speaking of this is "America's Next Top Model". I love this show, it is my time where nothing pulls me away. I look forward to each Wednesday at 8:00 pm when I get to see girls (I can not call them women) get all dressed up or down which ever it might be and have some one tell them you did well or you sucked. I know there are those out there that just shake their heads and can not believe why waste an hour of my time on such ....well it is just my let's say time out for the week, the time when I know I get 60 minutes of uninterrupted time all to myself. This is the delicious time of my week. I get the popcorn popped, a big glass of Kool-Aid, the remote control, and the small couch is mine all mine. Joe has learned to just walk away and let me be for this precious bit of time each week. There truly so many things to be grateful for but this week I am grateful or the hour of mindless TV I and eat some wonderful microwave "Movie, buttered popcorn". I think we all need one hour where we have to do nothing but what we want to do.
Well our news is we are the proud owners of a new Nissan, Maxima. Joe and I went and took my Corolla and said good by, no more squeal from the windshield if you go over 50 miles an hour. Our new car is a light tan/gold/champagne color with black interior(I am not to excited about the black interior but Joe drives it). Basically we have a race car, it coasts at 45 miles an hour whoosh...
We also purchased a new bed for our spare bedroom. We have a VERY hard mattress that the visitors have to use. I will apologize now for all those who have had to sleep on it. We purchased a very comfortable queen size bed. So for those of you that come to visit we have a comfy comfy bed for you. Joe's parents and brother are coming the end of the month for a quick visit and then we all are headed to San Diego for a wedding. Hooray a road trip!!!!!!!

I awoke this moring surrounded by kleenex and cough drop wrappers. Happy Valentines Day to me! I have the 3rd cold since Christmas. I am over and done. I walked the aisle last night in the grocery store wishing to find that magical pill or syrup or nose sprak that will take and make the cold disappear over night. I know deep down inside there is nothing that will make it go away, but a girl can just dream. I loaded my cart up and the all items onto the check out belt. Kleenex, Cough Drops, Alka Seltzer night time, some swab things with medicine that you stick up your nose that promises to help reduce the length of your cold, a trash magazine and "Creamies" the chocolate one. The lady asked me looks like you don't feel good, I wanted to say "Here's your sign" and give a crusty look that could kill. Instead I smiled and said you are correct. This brings me to the things (yes more than one) I am thankful this week. Kleenex and Toilet Paper!
These two amazing inventions. Anyone who knows me I have a great adversion to flem and snot, so being able to get rid of this gross stuff and throw it away is a dream come true. I can not imagine washing hankerchiefs like my grandparents did. Makes me gague just thinking about it.
I am just praying and praying this all ends so I can enjoy this 3 day weekend ahead.
